Oil Painting for Beginners
Went to my first session of four that I booked "Beginners Oil Painting" at the Patchings art centre where I had my painting "Red Glasses" displayed in July. I decided to book the classes as I wanted to branch out more and I think it would really help with my portraiture. Oil is such a lovely vibrant media but I was really apprehensive having used acrylic for so long.
The lady who taught the class, Liz, was really helpful and she knew her stuff! This first session we were getting used to the paint, the colours, mixing and applying but creating our own version of a Monet painting of waterlilies. We used watercolour primed with tinted gesso which I've not used before, taped to an unused pizza box which acted as a mini easel and also protected it on the way home! very clever!
We have homework too! Colour wheels and shading tasks, which is great as I haven't got a lot of the basics having had no art training (as such) and will be really good for me.
Anyway, here's my Monet in a pizza box and can't wait for the next session in 2 weeks.
I also picked up 3 x A5 boards from Patchings to take part in their A5 exhibition at Christmas. Hopefully I'll have enough time to do all 3!
